You know something isn't working when your 6 year old nephew says it looks ugly. The 6 year old kindly told his mother he didn't like my yellow and gray star sampler. Since that didn't work, I am giving it another go with a star quilt. I am joining the Stars Quilt Along over at Happy Quilting. Fat Quarter Shop is the sponsor and they are offering 20% off Melissa's fabric of choice- Joel Dewberry's Heirloom. I loved Modern Meadow, but I never got around to getting any. The resulting quilt is a queen sized top which intimidates me, but I am going for it with the Citrine colourway. Let's see if the 6 year old approves.

I NEED . . .
I need a Kona colour card. Desperately!!!!
Cherry House Quilts is having a quilt along and it uses solids only. Yes, I have become a bit addicted to quilt alongs. The patterns are free, they have variety and it allows me to have a sewing goal every week.
Anyway, I have wanted to try my hand at more 'modern' designs and this is a perfect start. I want to do it in Black and Gold; Purdue colours NOT Iowa Hawkeye colours. Unfortunately, both my LQS don't carry Kona cottons and alas, my favourite Fabric Shack is a 12 hour drive away. I can order them online from the Fabric Shack, but I am unsure of the colours using my computer screen. Any suggestions?

Postage Stamp Quilt Along through P.S. I quilt

I am not participating in the Postage Stamp Quilt Along and it is killing me. I wish I was, but I am busy over the next couple weeks. Rachel did an awesome Pinwheel Sampler last year and her instructions are very clear and beginner friendly.

My first Quilt Along
I caught onto this Quilt Along a bit late so I don't have my fabric yet. I ordered it today from (as usual) The Fabric Shack. Still half price shipping. Yay! I am using Breakfast and Tiffany's from Fig Tree & Co.
It is a Layer Cake Quilt Along from Moose on the Porch Quilts. There are contests during the process and people post pictures of their blocks as they make them. The first block pattern has been posted and people have already posted pictures of their blocks. There are some awesome fabric selections and colour combinations. There is a button on the side that links to the Quilt Along.
I'm a little nervous on how it is going to turn out because I am a bit of control freak and I won't know what all the blocks are in advance. I will have to pick each block's colours without knowing the pattern of the next one. This will be a good exercise in learning how to not over think things. Not sure if that made any sense!
Will update when the first block is done.
