Goal update- End of Year

1. Finish Aster Manor quilt. I finished this and gave it to my mum. It made the long trip to India.
2. Finish Martinique quilt. A wonderful spring/summer quilt. Will make an appearance in a few months.
3. Piece Flag Day Farm quilt. Didn't get it done, but it is one that I hope to finish quickly in the new year.
4. Get all disciples in Last Supper done. Almost.
5. Bind table toppers finished last year. I really enjoyed making the table toppers. I have a kit for another one I need to get done.
6. Sew one article of clothing. I am so proud of myself for making my wrap around skirt. I wore the skirt several times last year and will again this summer.
7. Continue with Layer Cake Quilt Along. Love this quilt. Loved the blocks, but especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the quilt along quilters.
8. Start and finish Split Decision quilt. This didn't work as well as I hoped. The blocks work individually, but they don't work together.
9. Start and finish Christmas quilt. Completed and gifted. Never did get the tree skirt though. There is  always next year.
10. Fig and Plum layer cake something quilt. Need to finish out that binding! I love Jenny's quilting on this. This is going to be the perfect spring quilt.
11. Skinny Strips Quilt using Prayer Flag jelly roll. Top turned out really well. I bought the jelly roll way back in January and finished it out in December. Pretty good turn around for me.
12. Fresh Cottons jelly roll something. Have backing fabric as well, but no pattern of choice yet.
13. Patchwork Squared Solids Quilt Along. Learned to say no and glad I did. I do now have a stash of Kona Cotton yard cuts.
14. Star Sampler quilt. Turned out horrible! Just awful. Need to find a better fabric combination.
15. Batik quilt. Such a pretty quilt that I don't know why I can't finish.
16. String quilt. I love the concept, but I didn't have enough scraps and kind of at a standstill.
17. Stash busting. My stash is stressing me out.
18. Yo Yo strips quilt. I went through all my fat quarters and kind of stopped. It is a fun way to pass the time while watching TV.
19. Fat Quarter Shop Block of the Month. Six months behind!!!
20. Quilt Along. I had two quilt alongs that I didn't go with for goal 20. The Chasing Chevrons may make a reappearance.

My main goal for 2012 is to scale back. I have too much fabric and too many patterns. I am a crafting hoarder. It isn't good and I am not being a very good steward of the blessings God has given me. I feel overwhelmed when I see my stash. This is a hobby and sometimes I forget it is. I look at other blogs and I feel like I am not being productive enough. I have other commitments and like I said before this is just a hobby. So Happy New Year! I hope 2012 is a good crafting year for all.

Goal update- August

I was looking at the goal updates and there is no July. That is reflective of my sewing and blogging this summer. I haven't done much. The weather will turn in a few weeks which will lend to more sewing time. Work has slowed down and in the last week I have been able to knock out a quilt top. I am going through my stash and planning out the next couple projects. I need to clean things out. Tastes change and I have fabric from a year ago that I am not interested in anymore. I also need to start the sewing circle again. It is fun to sew and gossip.

3. Piece Flag Day Farm quilt Well, I have till next spring.

7. Continue with Layer Cake Quilt Along Backing fabric needs to come on sale.

8. Start and finish Split Decision quilt The problem is the layout. I can't seem to make it work. I need to figure it out.

9. Start and finish Christmas quilt I think I'm turning it into a tree skirt.

10. Fig and Plum layer cake something quilt While it took forever to finish, it ended OK.

11. Skinny Strips Quilt using Prayer Flag jelly roll Haven't started it yet.

12. Fresh Cottons jelly roll something Same thing as the the Prayer Flag quilt. Backing fabric ordered and arrived. $4 a yard.

14. Star Sampler quilt Dropped.

15. Batik quilt This is the strangest thing. It is on my sewing machine. I switched sewing machines because I just didn't want to finish it. I don't know what it is. I have the border fabric and the blocks are cut. I just need to sew them together. Just don't want to.

16. String quilt Need to work on a few more blocks.

17. Stash busting Nothing major added, but haven't really cleaned out. I keep adding on for projects- like backing fabric or background fabric.

18. Yo Yo strips quilt I went through all my fat quarters and kind of stopped. It is a fun way to pass the time while watching TV.

19. Fat Quarter Shop Block of the Month I am three months behind, but I LOVE the fabric and the blocks.

20. Moose on the Porch Quilt Along I need to pick my fabric. Most participating are stash busting. I think I may go with something that isn't me at all.

Goal update- June

3. Piece Flag Day Farm quilt I'm going to try and get it done over the long weekend.
7. Continue with Layer Cake Quilt Along Still waiting on the backing fabric.

8. Start and finish Split Decision quilt Still on the floor.

9. Start and finish Christmas quilt Maybe Christmas in July FNSI

10. Fig and Plum layer cake something quilt I decided to use it for the Synchronized Squares quilt along and the pattern was super cute, but I made a mistake with the solid. I wasn't sold on it, so I didn't finish on schedule, so I am just going to change things around.

11. Skinny Strips Quilt using Prayer Flag jelly roll

12. Fresh Cottons jelly roll something Have the braid quilt pattern.

14. Star Sampler quilt Ugly. May just drop it. Konda at Moose on the Porch is planning a star quilt along.

16. String quilt Need to work on a few more blocks.
17. Stash busting Haven't added to really.

2. Finish Martinique quilt
3. Piece Flag Day Farm quilt  I fished it out and I am getting to it.
4. Get all disciples in Last Supper done I need to take this off the list

9. Start and finish Christmas quilt Still in the stash
10. Fig and Plum layer cake something quilt I picked up the Sugar Twist pattern, but nothing beyond that.
11. Skinny Strips Quilt using Prayer Flag jelly roll
12. Fresh Cottons jelly roll something I think it is perfectly suited for a braid quilt.
14. Star Sampler quilt I don't know what to think about these blocks. It isn't the blocks; it is my colour choice. I am going to plough through and hope that my layout fabric redeems the blocks.
15. Batik quilt It came together pretty quick. I need to use more of my batik fat quarters.
16. String quilt I think I started this too soon. I don't have enough accumulated scraps to really make it work. The blocks all look a bit alike.
17. Stash busting I have random fat quarters left over that I need to use up.

Crossing off the to-do list

One of my goals for 2011 was to 'Start and finish Split Decision quilt'. I picked up a Rural Jardin jelly roll while it was on sale at Fat Quarter Shop. I think the cream, reds and blues will provide a nice contrast for the Split Decision pattern. I am taking a short cut though and just unrolling and dividing the strips up the way they came in the jelly roll. It shouldn't take too long to assemble, but it always takes longer than one expects. This afternoon I start cutting.

2010 crafting summary

It has been a good crafting year for me. I restarted the Lord's Supper cross stitch and made pretty good progress. The plan was to do at least a disciple a month and I did do that when I was cross stitching continuously. I took a break during the summer and then again towards the end of the year. I really like the way it has turned out so far.

The quilting has definitely taken off. I finished two quilts completely. Both are being used and I like that I am not just bundling them away. I pieced two new quilts that I have ready to send off to be quilted by Jenny. I branched out to table toppers. The one I finished I will definitely be using next summer. I joined my first quilt along and have learned how to relinquish control a bit. I do have two UFOs, but that isn't that bad. I am working on one right now, so it isn't that bad.

I've met new quilters and discovered the online quilting community. There are some very creative people out there!

The goals for next year are to scale back on fabric accumulation and actually use the patterns and fabric I already have. I hope that next year I start actually quilting and not just piecing. Oh, and finish the Last Supper cross stitch.

Happy New Year!
